‘Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and
to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to
those who call evil good,’ but that is exactly what we have done. We
have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have
exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded
laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called
it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We
have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self
esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted
our neighbor’s possessions and called it ambition We have polluted the
air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of
expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our
forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh God, and know
our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and Set us free. Amen!’

Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio program, ‘The
Rest of the Story,’ and received a larger response to this program
than any other he has ever aired. With the Lord’s help, may this
prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so
that we again can be called ‘One nation under God.’ >
If possible, please pass this prayer on to your friends. ‘If you don’t
stand for something, you will fall for everything.’

Think about this: If you forward this prayer to everyone on your
e-mail list, in less than 30 days it would be heard by the world.
(It’s worth a try!)

  1. It is a great prayer. I love everything about it. I received this in my email and like I always do I started searching to make sure it was true before I sent it on. It is partly true. It wasn’t said by Billy Graham or on Paul Harvey but it did make a great impact in the Kanas legislature in Jan. 1996. The real truth is actually better than the “fictional” version.
Here is the link, read what is after the part stating its false and the prayer. That is were it gets very good.

  2. Just wanted to add that after more searching I did find that after Rev. Joe Wright read this prayer and it caused such controvery that Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on “The Rest of the Story” on the radio and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired.

The response was immediate after the prayer was read in legislature. A number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest. In 6 short weeks, Central Christian Church, where Rev. Joe Wright is pastor, logged more than 5,000 phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively. The church is now receiving international requests for copies of this prayer from India, Africa, and Korea.

  3. As noted this was prayed by the Reverend Joe Wright in 1996 at the opening session of the Kansas
House of Representatives. It was writen by a Rev. Bob Russell.

  4. Can I share something about my life? I had been living in a home where I had to witness my father be extremely verbally abusive of my mother. I happened to get laid off from IBM in 2004, and the last time I had a full-time job was 2007. The only situation that manifested itself with me, was state run housing to get out of the environment. When I see welfare is lazy, can I ask what part of my life, where I got a Masters degree in computers, and have worked multiple years on a not-for-profit, for no money (so I hope I can get work experience to fix my resume) would make me lazy? I am curious where I am lazy. If I manifest times I am lazy, maybe it is because of times I am depressed, and lacking hope.
