“Personally, we have used this formula to live on one income and to become debt free. We gave up 2/3 of our income at one point in our lives and this budget kept us on track. We went from a combined income of $102.000 to living on $34,000. We used the target amounts as goals. We took inventory of where the money was going and then we attacked our budget one line item at a time until we reached the target amount. We are now thriving and are on track to becoming completely debt free including mortgage debt.” Ted and Kathy Danner

This budget does not have a category for private school, pre-school, mother’s morning out, or any kind of day care/educational costs. So if that category is needed, you will need to shave some costs down either equally from the whole budget or take from a major category like housing.

This calculator makes three important assumptions.

1) It accounts for medical insurance and life insurance amounts already being deducted from your pay check.

2) It also assumes that 401K savings has already been deducted.
If you do not have either of these important categories pre-ducted from your check, then you will need to take some money from one or more of the other areas in your budget and put it away into a medical or saving account.

3) This budget only accounts for one car and one car insurance amount. If you need two cars, then one car will need to be paid for (free) or, you will need to shave some money off one of the other categories.
