E-zine seeks to share joy for at-home moms

Every mom can relate to the simplicity and necessity of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Kathy Danner, a Franklin resident, has taken that idea and created a free e-zine called PB and JAHM: Joy at Home Moms.

“PB and JAHM is dedicated to fighting the joy thieves of motherhood so moms can become JOY @ Home Moms. It helps moms bring joy into their homes by providing ‘bite-size’ tips and ideas that are simple, fun, frugal, and wholesome just like a PB and J sandwich,” said Danner.

“Joy thieves” are things in a mom’s life that take the joy out of being a mom. Things like financial stress, disorganization, and bored kids are all “joy thieves” that are addressed in the e-zine.

The monthly e-zine has articles that provide SAHMs, stay-at-home moms, and WAHMs, work-at-home moms, with tips on organization, budgeting, gardening, party planning, recipes, and meditation. Sections called enJOY Saving Money, enJOY Organization, enJOY Gardening, enJOY Entertaining, and enJOY a Quiet Moment, a faith-based devotional, are focused on making motherhood as fun as it should be.

The June issue is the first of many to come. Every month PB and JAHM e-zine will sponsor a charity and donate a dollar for the first 200 subscribers. The June charity is the Make-A-Wish Foundation. An article is featured in the June issue by a Franklin mom whose child is a cancer survivor and part of the foundation.

In coming months, PB and JAHM plans to donate to Operation Family Fund for Military Families, St. Jude’s Hospital, and the American Cancer Society.

The charity portion of the e-zine is a way for moms to focus less on their problems and also bring joy into their lives.

“One of the essential parts of being a Joy @ Home Mom is spreading the joy. I believe that one of the number one ways to fight off the joy thieves of motherhood is to give to someone else in greater need than yourself. This focuses you on others and a bigger picture rather than your own problems,” said Danner.

Kathy Danner has lived in Franklin for about a year now. She is a Christian writer with published works under her belt. Danner likes to describe herself as “the wife of a Nissan man, and mother of two elementary school kids, one tick attracting dog, and two over-fed goldfish.”

Her idea to make this e-zine came after a book publisher turned her down. She was determined to publish her ideas and decided to do it for free through an e-zine.

“My heart is to help moms and so I just decided to give it away in the form of a free e-zine for moms,” said Danner.

Although there is only one faith-based section in the magazine, enJOY a Quiet Moment, God has been an integral part in Danner’s mothering.

“Jesus Christ is the one true source of everlasting joy, and I hope that other moms will find reading the ‘enJOY a Quiet Moment department’ a source of spiritual renewal,” said Danner.
